Mario's Empire - Part 1

Sorry for delaying "Mario's Empire!" Well, welcome to the series, even though I'm late. This is a good mix of my previous gaming blog and this history blog. If you haven't seen my trailer on the series, please click here. With that out of the way, let's go!

Mario was 7 years old in 1994 when he founded Super Mario Bros. Plumbing (SMBP) with his brother, Luigi. They used an abandoned house across their home as their base. He was only available during summer, as he still went to school. He only got around 7 customers per day, but none knew what he was about to do with the nation of Italy.

When he turned 23, Mario disbanded SMBP to join a professional plumbing company. At this point, he already had an interest in world history, especially the Roman Empire. But he was just a worker living in Rome.

However, in 2016, he was given an address that sounded familiar. It was the Italian parliament. It was there that he realized he could do good in politics. The following year, Mario resigned from the plumbing business to establish a political party known as the Roman Imperial Party. He also found a friend named Peach, whom he would crown "Princess of Rome" in a ceremony.

In 2022, Mario ran for president of Italy. He lost. Did he accept it? No! He started an uprising, demanding the presidency. Eventually, the government surrendered, handing the presidency to Mario.

At first, the people of Italy expected the new president to appoint a prime minister. However, Mario refused to do that! Within 6 hours of his inauguration, he proclaimed himself dictator of Italy and refused any talks about appointing a prime minister. A day later, he lowered the Italian flag and raised a Roman flag. The Roman Empire had been proclaimed. (Despite the name, it was a principality, but Princess Peach did not hold any political power.)

The first thing Mario did as Roman dictator was to leave NATO and the EU. Two years after that, Mario swiftly conquered Tunisia. (Some would call it the Fourth Punic War.) Then, he formed an alliance with Slovenia and Croatia, having them leave NATO too. In the Treaty of Ljubljana, Croatia and Slovenia ceded territory to Rome in exchange for Rome guaranteeing their independence.

The next thing he did was conquer the nation of Bosnia. Bosnians felt bad, but the Serbs felt even worse falling under Roman rule.

You will learn next time that the annexation of Bosnia would ignite a huge conflict, and be a big mistake for the Romans. See you next time, when we cover that on Part 2 of "Mario's Empire!"
