The True West German Flag

Hey Enotitans! So, this isn't much. But I just wanted to inform you about what West Germany's flag was. In case you don't know, West Germany was formed in 1949 after the British, American, and French occupation zones in Germany merged. The state technically still exists today in the form of modern Germany, because German reunification was actually West Germany absorbing East Germany's territory. (East Germany was allied to the Soviets during the Cold War, while West Germany was allied to the Americans.)

One time, I was watching this YouTube video about the biggest defeats in the history of the FIFA World Cup. (Yes, I am a bit of a sports fan.) One was Hungary defeating West Germany 8-3 in the 1954 World Cup.

FUN FACT: West Germany got revenge by beating Hungary in the championship match that same tournament.

But I want you to look at the West German flag displayed there. It's like the modern flag, but it has an eagle emblem. Here's a close-up look of the flag:

Now, here's the thing. This was not the official flag of West Germany. The official flag of West Germany was the same as the modern German flag. (Again, the reunification of Germany in 1990 was just West Germany absorbing East Germany.) This flag was probably just used to distinguish West Germany from current Germany, since of course, West Germany and East Germany merged their teams after reunification.

So, what even is that flag? Well, that's the state flag of Germany. What's the difference? Well, a state flag is only used by the government. If it is different, it usually has an emblem. (However, most countries, like Enotita, have no different state flag.) The national flag is to be used by all.

So, I used West Germany as an example of what a state flag is. I hope you now understand what a state flag is.

Also, I have a quick note. Did you notice how it says "Germany" somewhere on the page? Well, the main country of the post will now be labeled as the location of the blog from now on.

    Alright guys, that's it. Bye!
